A BIT OF OUR HISTORY

“Far round the world thy children sing their song From East and West their voices sweetly blend Praising the Lord in whom young lives are strong……….” These opening lines of the original school hymn spells out the vision of the founders a century ago, when at 1030 hrs on Monday 03rd September 1900, Bambalapitiya Girls’ High School came into being. Founded by the Dutch Reform Church to serve the girls living in and around Bambalapitiya, the school was renamed Lindsay Girls’ School after Rev. Lindsay the priest in charge of the Bambalapitiya parish. Twenty nine pupils, three teachers – Mrs. Grace Ebert, May Foenander and Florence Fruitner, the Principal – Mrs. Paulusz and the manger Rev. Tweed created history by being the first to be associated with the new institution.
